I am also not in favor of balloon payment as it becomes really difficult to pay the bulky principal amount at the end of contract.So don’t get in that trap of lower payment initially,it will hurt you in the long run.

I would not recommend a balloon payment unless you’re sure you can make the final balloon installment. It’s very rare to find this as an option unless in a lease.

I was never aware of balloon loans for cars and I know nothing about them. We did a good number of them in the mortgage business and they worked out fine, however that was during a time of low to falling rates.

The real test would come if rates were to spike a few points.

I would be interested to have a few examples of the final payments based upon the cost of the car and average interest rates in Australia.
