There are some points which need to be considered when choosing these appliances. Some of these points are mentioned below:

Buying new appliances and possibly the latest models is the best option. This is because the latest models are more efficient in terms of energy consumption. They will help in saving costs and will have lower gas emissions.
Older models tend to consume more energy and their consumption increases with time. This is why it is always better to avoid buying used appliances.

There are stricter regulations and policies which have to be followed by manufacturers. These government regulations have been designed to ensure that the new appliances have the lowest possible energy consumption.
In some cases manufacturers even have to specify the specific details on their products as well. This helps the consumers in making better decisions and ensures that proper standards are being followed by everyone.
Product Specifications
It is important to consider product specifications when buying appliances. This will ensure that consumers make the right choice when buying appliances. The average energy consumption of appliances like refrigerators is mentioned in the product specifications so buyers can have a fair idea about its efficiency.
New Technology

Nice article Allan. There must be a distinction made, however, between new technologies and new products which use cheap, cost-effective technologies. These days, ‘upgrading’ to a newer product means buying another mass-produced (often made in China)product made from inferior materials, technology, or both – and designed to last only a short period of time before replacement. This, while possibly saving electricity costs due to noticeable differences in energy consumption, is hardly ‘green’ when looking at the carbon emissions of the greater global process.
It’s a controversial topic, however, and I thank you for raising the issue.
