Last night I met up with a few personal finance bloggers in the DC Metro area I have connected with over the past few months. We met up for happy hour at McGinty’s Public House out in Silver Springs, Maryland. I’ve never been to the area or to the group happy hour before so this was a completely new experience for me. I was happy they invited me out, because it gave me the opportunity to meet face to face with people I connect with online on a regular basis.
Because this was my first time meeting up with the group, I was a little bit nervous and didn’t know what to expect, especially since a few of the others have met at previous events. It also doesn’t help when I showed up 30 minutes late because I was sitting at the wrong bar in the restaurant waiting for people thinking they were all just late. I had no idea what anyone looked like since I’ve never met them before, so I just sat there all puzzled, looking really pathetic. (My tip for others is to get some phone numbers). Anyways, I eventually realized there was a bar upstairs and eventually found the group.
The night was great, after squeezing my way into the table and joining in on the ongoing conversations I relaxed a bit. We were at the bar for about 3 hours, and discussed everything from blogging, to tips, to different strategies and other fun small talk. Oh yea, and my Penn State was playing in the NIT finals so I had that on in the background, and of course we won.
These were the cool people I met last night….
Mike from CleverDude.com (A PSU alum like me)
J. Money from Budgets Are Sexy (bringing the mohawk back)
Mapgirl from Mapgirl’s Fiscal Challenge
Mrs. Micah from MrsMicah.com
DH from Debt Hater
Ginger from Girls Just Wanna Have Funds, and her husband ‘G’
Megan from Counting My Pennies
Amelia from Amelia’s Healthy Life
It was a good cast of characters and I look forward to the continuation of the group.
