SocialDevCamp East held on 10th May at University of Baltimore, has been a great experience, it was bursting with energy and gave an excellent opportunity for all of its 150 participants to interact , which was very educational, zealous and stimulating . The encouraging part of the whole show was we had people coming in from far of ways as NY, Philadelphia , Boston and DC…. It gave a great incite to innovative commendable works of various participants.
The day started with getting to know each other, it was a flood of likeminded community coming together to share and lean by mutual attendance and discussing the works and trends in web technologies. Then anonymously based on the interest and requirement of the day we zeroed on few sessions which were interesting and interactive with all sharing their ideas and experiences. The topics discussed ranged a vast area of interest like Building a Social Hub – Integration of Social Networks, The Semantic Web, iPhone Applications and its Development, Location or Geo Based Applications.
The mid of the day we had lunch which was very elaborate and best part of the lunch was that it gave all participants a great opportunity to socially interact and get to know more on the works each other . The lunch session was again followed by interesting sessions like Behavior Development with Rails, Data Portability and The Amtrak Corridor Start-up Business. At the end of the day we all ended having a blast of the time at Brewer’s Art with beer flowing and great snacks moving around we had motivating, interesting, casual and relaxed conversations going on for next few hours which seemed to have passed on very fast
I’m sure to miss other folks, but I wanted to give a shout out to some people that I enjoyed meeting for the first time. I’ve known about Ann Bernard of whygosolo.com for a long time, but never got a chance to interact – great entrepreneur. David Troy and I have talked in email, so it was great to put a face to the name . It was a pleasure to hang out with Nick O’Neill of socialtimes.com. I’d seen Mike Subelsky before, but I never realized he is a big hacker. Also enjoyed talking with Shawn Busteed about his www.evdeliv.com. Jimmy Gardner from mydropbin.com gave me some great tips about Amazon S3. Got very little time to talk Jared Goralnick of awayfind.com, would love to catchup on him again. Also got blessing from Social Network Swami (Title of Shashi Bellamkonda). Spent time with Robert Neelbauer and Juliana Neelbauer of jobmatchbox.com. Great team to use our hiring needs.
On the whole SocialDevCamp East was a great place to be in and an reminding that east coast may not have the silicon valley here but they have great resources and energy to make one in very near future its very own silicon community.
